Have you ever had one of those days when you've spent hours on your perfect pinup hairstyle, your makeup is understated yet elegant, and you've got your best vintage dress on, only to go out and be asked by strangers why you're dressed in a costume? Heartbreaking.
Although these well-intentioned people might say you look great, it's a real blow to your self-esteem to think you look like you're unintentionally in a costume after you've spent so long trying to look fabulous! So, how can you avoid unintentionally looking like you've just come out of a time machine? Fortunately, there are lots of ways to make it fun without looking too costume-ish.
Mix It, Blend It
Your fabulous vintage fit can be interspersed with some contemporary pieces to keep it looking fresh. Here are some things to try:
- Wear a t-shirt with your circle skirt or pencil skirt, it looks less dressed up but still put together
- Pair a pinup style dress with a leather jacket
- Wear a vintage inspired blouse with jeans
- Layer your vintage look with contemporary accessories
- Do your hair in a messy bun instead of rocking a fully manicured and coiffed updo
- Although red lipstick is the classic look, a more muted shade works for times when you want to take things down a notch. 💄
Or Go For Broke
Some pinup enthusiasts are ride or die, and we totally respect that. If you just want to wear your pinup look and go for it, then do it!
Most of all, your clothing is your canvas, so express yourself. There are no rules, and you can wear whatever makes you happy!
